A glimpse of my visual diary

Hey guys,
So far it’s been an exciting and colourful journey. There is so
much to look at in Chandni Chowk. Such bright colours fill the entire streets of the market.
Im so inspired to get to draw whatever I found interesting. Some of the things were the “gumbad” (top) of the mosques. On these pages I’ve mainly focused on the structures of the religious buildings. Techniques taught us in the class to draw in perspective are finally being put to use. I hope these are liked by the faculty. In the next few pages I’ve focused on the daily life of the shopkeepers of the market. Such as in this one, an old shopkeeper who repairs vintage clocks is displayed. I, along with my group members stopped at this particular shop and asked a few questions from this man. He told us that some of these clocks were as old as a hundred years.

The Alleys

Nai Sarak: A popular book-shopping destination in Old Delhi is Nai Sarak. Connecting the main Chandni Chowk Road with Chawri Bazaar, Nai Sarak has numerous wholesale and retail shops selling college and school textbooks. Just a left turn from the famous Paranthewali Gali will take you to Nai Sarak. You will also find shops that sell only stationery items. The market remains closed on Sundays.

Chor Bazaar: Located near the Red Fort and Lajpat Rai Market, Chor Bazaar literally means "Thieves' Market". From electronic items to designer clothes, you can find everything here. Prices are enticingly low but the life of the product can't be guaranteed. You have to depend on verbal assurances and on your own judgement.

Chhatta Chowk
: The Chhatta Chowk Bazaar, which dates back to the 17th century, was meant for ladies in veil. In this covered thoroughfare leading up to the Red Fort, the caravan traders would lay out their wares and move away. The ladies could then come and make their choice without being observed. Today, the market has 40-odd shops selling artificial and

semi-precious jewelleryembroidered bags, hand-painted wall hangings and 'antiques' with dubious authenticity.

Daryaganj Book Market: Be it the latest best-seller or an out-of-print book, Delhi is a hot destination for buying books. Stretching for more than a kilometre, the Daryaganj Old Book Market is often referred to as the world's largest weekly book market. It is organised every Sunday.

From PEARL to CHANDNI CHOWK !

cover page

Chandni Chowk is one of the oldest and busiest markets
in Old Delhi, India. Chandni Chowk is located close to Old Delhi Railway Station. The Red Fort monument is located within the market. It was built in the 17th century by Mughal Emperor of India Shah Jahan and designed by his daughter Jahanara. The market was once divided by canals (now closed) to reflect moonlight and remains one of India's largest wholesale markets.

A glimpse of my visual diary

After exploring half of chandni chowk,my group decided to
choose MALIWARA INTERSECTION as our macro area.

Maliwara

we talked to a few people there. They thought that we were

from some tax department XD . We had to show our ID cards as a proof :P.

I chose a jewellery store as my micro area . The owner of that shop is Mukesh Kumar. He answered all my questions with so much patience.

IT WAS ONE CRAZY DAY XD

Tuesday, 15 March 2016

THIS IS NOT THE END..... IT'S JUST A BEGINNING OF A NEW...... Project XD

It's been so long since I've posted something.
Last project was all about art movements, thorough research and analysing it for a tangible output.

This time it's a whole lot different. Firstly, it's our first outdoor project (sooo excited :D). Secondly, it's initially a group project and then we have to work individually.
The best part is we have to travel to different places, communicate with different people.
So, the day we got our module brief, the whole class had to choose a particular place. That discussion went on for two hours and we all finally agreed upon CHANDNI CHOWK(i'm still not happy with this place). The  groups were divided and we all visited Chandni Chowk.

My first visit was a bit messy :P . It took us an hour to find our group members . In my opinion our generation and the coming generations are not used to these kinds of places which are so crowded with narrow streets and there's literally no place to stand. I also thought that I won't be able to go there , research was out of question :P. But , I was wrong. A totally opposite thing happened. I actually enjoyed my first visit , though it was not that easy travelling in metro and then walking down those narrow lanes with all the pushing and pulling. It was kind of fun :P

I actually learnt a lot on that day. One of the things that I've learnt is that work only happens when we come out of our comfort zone( serious enough :P )

I hope this project turns out to be good.
Will keep posting my crazy experience :P
